Seit 1994 besteht das Internet – offiziell zugänglich. Die Gründerväter initiierten gleichzeitig auch eine Stelle zur Weiterentwicklung der Programmiersprache HTML, das sog. World Wide Web Konsortium – kurz W3C. Dieses entwickelt Standards wie CSS, RSS oder X-HTML. Letzterer soll dafür Sorge tragen, dass nach diesem Standard gestaltete Webseiten auf allen Internetbrowsern gleich dargestellt werden. Leider sieht die Realität, 15 Jahre nach der Initialzündung des Internets, erheblich anders aus. Und dies liegt nicht allein an Fehlentwicklungen Seitens der Browserherstellter.
